How to Set Your Weight Unit
By default Stronglifts uses the weight unit of your location. If you're in the USA it will default to lb while it will default to kg in Europe.
You can change your weight unit anytime like this...
- Open Stronglifts
- Go to Settings > Weight unit
- Switch from lb to kg or lb to kg
Stronglifts will convert all your weights to the new weight unit. This includes the homescreen, workout screen, history, progress graphs, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I set body weight to kg but exercise weight to lb?
Yes, like this:
- Open Stronglifts
- Go to Settings > Weight unit
- Set exercise weight to lb
- Set body weight to kg
How does the weight conversion work when switching the weight unit?
Stronglifts will automatically convert your weights to values that you can load on the bar with your equipment. Instead of rounding to a precise number, we will round to the nearest usable weight.
Say you're using kgs and your exercise weight is 60kg. This equals 132.28lb. However when you switch from kg to lb, we will convert the 60kg to 130lb. This is a weight that you can lift with the typical 2.5lb and 5lb plates available in the gyms. We will convert your bar weight and plates to lb too, applying the same rounding there. So 2.5kg plates will become 5lb plates.
Note that Stronglifts intentionally rounds down to the nearest usable weight. This means that in some cases, there might not be an exact progression from the last weight you used, and you might end up repeating a previous weight. We think this is fine as the goal with progressive overload is to add weight over time. Repeating a weight once will not impact your long-term progression.
How can I log some exercises in lb but others in kg?
This isn't possible at the moment. However you can easily switch between kg and lb anytime during your workout. Here's how...
- Start your workout
- Log your first exercise in your usual weight unit
- Once done, go to Stronglifts > Settings > Weight unit > Switch from kg to lb or lb to kg
- Go back to your workout, everything is now showing in the new weight unit
- Log your sets for that exercise. Once done, switch the weight unit again.
